Bridges Burned (Going Down in Flames, Book 2) by Chris Cannon

**I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for my honest review**

4 ½ stars!

When half-breed dragon Bryn McKenna’s grandparents finally recognized her as their granddaughter after the attack on her at their home during the a deposition that almost ended her life, Bryn thinks that just maybe, life will get a little easier. But that couldn’t be further from the truth…now her life is truly not her own. Now, she’s got the possibly of being betrothed to someone she doesn’t love, her secret boyfriend – black dragon Zaven – is acting strange, and Jaxon is {GASP} actually being nice to her!

Upon returning to the Institute for Excellence, the secret dragon only school, the security has been boosted to try to protect her, as well as the other young dragons at the school – more cameras, more security guards, and curfews. But when the school begins to receive attacks – dragon attacks to be specific, starting with the orange dragons powered attack, Bryn’s whole world seems to be spiraling out of control. The only constants are her best friends, green dragons Ivy and Clint, her knight Valmont, and surprising new developments – her grandmother and Jaxon.

When the attacks of various dragon assaults continue, injuring a lot of dragons – even crippling some, like Rhianna, Jaxon’s betrothed; Bryn is whisked away to her grandparent’s estate during the winter break to keep her safer. With Valmont only a call away, Bryn feels like she is well protected and safe – plus she feels like there may be a growing affection for them both. But when the tragedies strikes, hitting even closer to home for Bryn, how can she move on from being the weird cross-breed? Will the dragon community ever see past her heritage…and will the attacks stop escalating or will everyone become a target?

Bryn seems like she is very confused throughout the book. She is still her strong, kick-butt self, but with all the changes that ensue in her world, she just seems to be winding her way through a crazy maze – twisting and turning, still trying to find her place in the bureaucracy of the dragon world. I really liked that Valmont and his relationship as Bryn’s knight (and maybe more…) was explored. Their budding relationship was gentle and soulful – very different than Bryn’s relationship with Zavien. While something just felt “off” about some of the story – I honestly can’t even put my finger on it, I still REALLY loved the story and think that Ms. Cannon hit another homerun – another one for the best-sellers list! Can’t WAIT to see what happens next for Bryn – no doubt she’ll still be kicking dragon butt and taking names!
